attribute NC_GLOBAL summary String Zooplankton taxonomic abundance from surface net tows at sampling stations in the Delaware Bay for microplastics research during the fall of 2019 and spring of 2022. Zooplankton were collected using a 0.5m diameter ring net with 200 um mesh fitted with a mechanical flow meter (General Oceanics, Model 2030R) at the net opening and filtering cod-end. Nets were towed for approximately 5 minutes at 1-2 knots. Samples were gently rinsed with filtered seawater into glass jars and preserved in a 10% buffered formalin solution until later analysis in the laboratory where zooplankton taxa were identified and enumerated using a dissecting microscope.
